I am writing to let you know that I will retire as CEO of Hospice Halifax in November 2021.
My time as CEO has been exciting and rewarding, and I am so proud to have played a role in building, opening and running the province’s first hospice. The timing is right for both me and for Hospice Halifax as we look to our next goals to grow the organization and serve our community’s growing needs.
My experience with the death of my mother in 2012 at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John encouraged me to volunteer with the Hospice Society of Greater Halifax in that same year. I then served on the board for 2 years, as well as a number of committees through 2017. I was chosen as the CEO in December 2017 and was thrilled to oversee the build of the new Hospice Residence, and develop a very capable and compassionate team, and ensure we delivered on our mission of providing the best end-of-life care possible for our patients and families.
We have accomplished a lot in this time, and our amazing team of staff, board members, volunteers, and donors will ensure Hospice Halifax continues to thrive in capable hands. While I will miss getting up every day and coming to work at the hospice, I am looking forward to a different lifestyle. I’m sure I will continue to stay busy with other work projects that I find meaningful, but I am also looking forward to spending more time with my family, especially my grandchildren.
Our Board has put together a committee of community leaders to work with KBRS in the search for my successor. I will be helping through the transition through November to ensure it is smooth and effective. You can view the job posting here.
