This is a love letter.
It is a love letter from my wife Faye to me.
And it is a love letter from me to you today.
It is about making every moment count.
Faye woke up on a Monday morning in 2022 with a headache that she had never felt the like of before. She got an immediate cancer diagnosis and three weeks later we found out it was in her brain.
That’s when we knew – we had limited time. She wrote her love letter two weeks after that diagnosis.
We had some tough days in palliative care, but then I took care of Faye at home for five weeks. It was really hard. With no sleep. I made a mistake with her drugs. Scared, I called the palliative nurse and the next day they called to say we could go to Hospice Halifax.
It was a breath of relief for me, for Faye, for our boys…for everyone!
Together our love took us everywhere, including Hospice Halifax. And as soon as we got there, we realized what real care was.
It is unbelievable.
So, I wanted to write my love letter to you today for your support of Hospice Halifax. My boys and I are so grateful for the extra time we had at Hospice with Faye. We made memories that would have never been possible otherwise. Your generosity gave us that time and extended our love to her last breath. Thank you!
I met Faye in October 1989. I found that person, you know, “the one”. We were married two years later. I was a bit of a hair-raiser growing up, and Faye settled me down and taught me how to be a dad.
She could be a clown! Our boys William and Thomas had her in stitches all the time. I used to say foolish stuff just to get her to laugh. It was always something foolish.
At Hospice, Faye had a ton of laughs with the nurses. They would paint her nails, share stories, and have a good ol’ yard.
When Faye told them about missing the comfort of having me next to her in bed, they immediately got us set up with a Cuddlebed.
This special bed expands to give extra space for loved-ones to be close. The first night we tried it, Faye slept soundly. She was so happy the next day.
She needed me in her arms. And, to be honest, I needed her touch too.
The Cuddlebed, like letters, brought us closer together in a special way.
If anyone has ever left you a little note, you know how much it can brighten your day.
Over the years, Faye and I would leave little notes and letters around the house for each other. So, I was not surprised when she wrote her goodbye letter.
I met the man I married, who I firmly believe was my soulmate. Two individual people who couldn’t be more suited to live and love together
100 years would not be enough with you or my boys. It’s been a beautiful life. I’ve been loved from the time of my very first breath, to my very last.
Love always, Faye.
I still read Faye’s letter every couple of weeks.
Not everyone understands the whole purpose of hospice. My family would have been lost without it!
Will you consider giving another donation today – a gift of love and time.
What will your love letter be?
From my heart to yours,
George
P.S.: Sharing Faye’s love letter is what she would have wanted because she would have wanted to give back.
Thank you for considering giving to Hospice Halifax today to help all families of all shapes share love a little longer.
