Many people still don’t know what a hospice is!
Hospice care is a specialized form of healthcare for individuals and families who are living with a life-limiting illness at an advanced stage. The goal of hospice palliative care is to provide comfort and dignity for the person living with the illness, as well as the best quality of life for both this person and their family.
Hospice care also includes support for anyone who is grieving the death of a loved one
We know that death can be sad and scary, but you may be surprised at the range of emotions that happen within a hospice setting. There is a lot of laughter, tender moments, grumpy family squabbles and all the other day-to-day quirks and emotions that come from community and family.
Above all, hospice is about LIFE! There are still movie nights, extra scoops of ice cream for dessert, cuddles, pranks, a cold beer in the garden, visits from that one aunt that talks too much, prayers, time with pets and more.
Hospice Halifax could not function as it does without the amazing support of our volunteers and donors who make it all possible.
The #HaliHeart will be on display at the Halifax Shopping Centre for the month of May.
