Hike for Hospice 2020 – The Results are in…

On Saturday, June 27th, we held our annual Hike for Hospice Halifax – with a twist. This year, due to COVID-19, we made the decision to opt for a virtual hike. When we pivoted from an in-person event to a virtual one, we had to get creative in how we would present the event. We engaged with you, our community, through our #hike4hospicehalifax hashtag, our live videos, and social media channels! Our analytics show that we reached over 10,000 people in Nova Scotia which helps inform people about Hospice Halifax and how we grew from a community of passionate volunteers with a vision to a tangible not-for-profit.

This year we had 19 teams and 100 participants on the nose. We set a goal of raising $50,000 and with the dedication of our participants and the generosity of the donors, we blew that goal out of the water!

This year, Hike for Hospice raised an incredible $78,160!

This is record breaking for our Hike and over $20,000 of it was raised in just a couple days. We are humbled and feel very fortunate to have so many incredible people involved with this organization.

We kicked the day off with a welcome from our CEO Gordon Neal and the Chair of our hike committee, Tony Webb. A special thank you to @Blended Athletics  who provided us with a warm-up video to get our muscles moving and blood pumping and @Evolve Fitness who provided us with an awesome cool down video. Staff members, volunteers, and participants went live throughout the day – we met some horses & goats, went on a quest, had a virtual tour of Hospice Halifax, sang along with Karlene our music therapist, walked a doggy, summited Citadel Hill, and found a waterfall! We also want to acknowledge @Arbour Memorial who have been long time supporters of our BBQ, and this year gave a donation in lieu. Virtual hotdogs aren’t nearly as tasty, but the support is very much appreciated!

We are full of gratitude as we reflect on our Hike for Hospice Halifax, and we are already excited for 2021. Thank you again to each and every one of you who have supported the hike, and Hospice Halifax as a whole. We appreciate you.

You can anticipate tax receipts and your fundraising incentives to arrive via the mail in the coming weeks!

Hospice Halifax is a compassionate and supportive community of staff, volunteers, and donors dedicated to making dying and living as comfortable and as meaningful as possible at the end of life.
