Thank you for considering creating a legacy with Hospice Halifax.

When you make a gift to Hospice Halifax, you provide someone in your community, and their loved ones, with the very best end-of-life care.  And it doesn’t end there. Your gift will continue to support family and friends through compassionate grief counselling and bereavement support programs  – because that is Hospice Care.

Exploring a gift in your Will to Hospice Halifax will ensure that patients, families, and their loved ones can find the compassionate end-of-life care they need.

We encourage you to read this page, do some research, and seek help from your financial advisor.

A bequest is a donation in your Will that is distributed by your estate after your death. Once your executor distributes your estate, Hospice Halifax will issue an official tax receipt for the amount received. Here are some examples:

Specific Bequest

Hospice Halifax receives a fixed amount of money.

“I give the sum of $______ (dollars) to Hospice Society of Greater Halifax (Hospice Halifax), of the City of Halifax, Province of Nova Scotia, Canada.”

Contingent Bequest

This is a gift that takes effect only if the primary intention cannot be met. For example, you direct Hospice Halifax to receive a portion of your estate if other beneficiaries do not survive you.

“If [name of beneficiary] does not survive me, or shall die within thirty days from the date of my death, I give to Hospice Society of Greater Halifax (Hospice Halifax), of the City of Halifax, Province of Nova Scotia, Canada, ____% of the residue of my estate [or $________].

Remainder or Residual Bequest

A gift of all or a percentage of whatever remains after all taxes, liabilities, administrative expenses and specific bequests have been paid.

“I give the rest, residue and remainder of my estate [or ____% of the residue] to Hospice Society of Greater Halifax (Hospice Halifax), of the City of Halifax, Province of Nova Scotia, Canada.”
