Several months ago, the staff at Hospice Halifax went all-in on planning an incredible ‘night at the cinema’ in our Centre for Training and Education (CTE) on the top floor of our residence. We filled the room with Candy, popcorn, cozy seats, big projection screen – the works! We even joked about spilling some pop to get that sticky theatre floor feeling we all know a little too well. We hoped to recreate the perfect movie night for a patient who LOVED going to the cinema. But, unfortunately, things changed quickly, and they didn’t have the opportunity to get upstairs for an all-out theatre experience. So instead, we found some alternatives to meet the family’s needs and wishes down in the room.
This past month when we met another patient who loved date nights at the cinema, our team knew exactly what to do! The theatre was recreated in the CTE and featured several films requested films, including F9 The Fast Saga and Eddie Murphy Coming to America.
Our team has started to refer to the cinema as “D’s Pop-Up Cinema” in honour of our patient who inspired the idea months ago. After seeing the smiles and hearing the laughs coming from the CTE, we know that D’s Pop Up Cinema will make a return to Hospice Halifax for any future patients who have a love for movies. And we can’t thank you enough for helping patients, and their loved ones create these memories!
